How to Clean Your Drytomita® Stone Bath Mat

Even the sturdiest stone bath mat can become stained over time. The good news is that cleaning your diatomaceous earth bath mat is really easy! Our stone mats don't retain odors, grime, or mildew like conventional bath mats do. However, with time, they may acquire stains or small particles of dirt, which is where a little upkeep is helpful. We'll show you how to maintain the brand-new appearance of your Drytomita® stone bath mat in a quick and simple manner.

One of the best things about a diatomaceous earth bath mat is that cleaning doesn’t require any soap or heavy-duty cleaning products. In fact, all you really need is some sandpaper and a damp cloth. Sounds almost too simple, right? But trust us—it works.

Start by taking your stone bath mat to a well-ventilated area. If you’re able to clean it outside, even better, since there will be a bit of dust involved. Grab a piece of fine-grit sandpaper (anywhere from 400 to 600 grit works well). Start gently sanding the surface of your mat in small, circular motions. This step will remove any stains, watermarks, or discolored areas that may have built up over time. Once you’ve sanded the entire surface, use a slightly damp cloth to wipe away the dust. This step will leave your mat looking fresh, clean, and ready for use. Be sure to wring out the cloth well—you don’t want to soak the mat, just give it a light wipe-down to pick up the fine dust. After wiping down, let the mat air dry for a few minutes. Because it’s diatomaceous earth, it’ll absorb the remaining moisture quickly and be ready to use in no time!

We’re big fans of diatomaceous earth for more than just bath mats. We’ve extended this incredible material to other products, like coasters, sink caddies, and dish mats, that benefit from the same quick-dry, antimicrobial properties. Luckily, the cleaning process for these items is just as simple as we show you in the video below:

So, the next time you notice your stone bath mat looking a bit worn, remember how simple it is to give it a refresh. Grab some sandpaper, wipe it down, and enjoy that fresh look all over again!
